Kobe Bryant’s Plan to Contain Leandro Barbosa

April 23, 2007

This article on Leandro Barbosa winning the NBA’s sixth man award includes a bizarre and perhaps mildy offensive comment by Kobe Bryant.

“Give him a soccer ball,” the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant said when asked what could be done to stop Barbosa. “Tell him Brazilians should be playing soccer, not basketball.”

We’ll see how that plan works out in game two, I guess. I can’t say it makes any less sense than Phil Jackson’s “It’s hard out here for a pimp” comment.

Phil Jackson on Bad Excuses

March 12, 2007

Memphis Bengal of Sports Frog picked up on a curious quote from Phil Jackson following the Lakers’ thumping at the hands of the Mavericks last night:

┬áThat was an embarrassing loss for us. There’s no excuse for the way we played. I don’t care if it’s daylight savings, it’s still not a good excuse.

No, it’s not, though the final score wouldn’t have been much worse if the Lakers had all accidentally shown up an hour late for the tip off. I think I might like this one even better than the Rex Grossman New Year’s Eve excuse.
