What I find interesting about watching the reaction to the explosion that occurred 50 yards away from the site of the UN Secretary-General’s Green Zone press conference on Thursday is that while Ban Ki-Moon is visibly shaken by the impact — and I can’t really blame the guy — the Iraqis are pretty non-chalant about the whole thing. Maliki doesn’t really seem too perturbed by the blast and the reporter just goes on asking his question in Arabic despite the big “boom” that came in the middle of it.
I especially liked the quote in this article:
Interior Minister Jawad Bolani played down the incident afterwards, telling Reuters: “This was not a security breach. Things like this happen in Baghdad once or twice a week.”
Just another day over there, I guess.
