In another follow-up to a post from yesterday, I am amazed at how this US attorney firings story has escalated so quickly, with calls for the Attorney General’s ouster growing pretty loud. Gonazles didn’t resign in his press conference that recently ended, but he certainly did seem to be under siege.
As I noted yesterday, absolutely no one is rushing to the AG’s defense outside of Tony Snow and George Bush. When even the clueless Jay Carney, Time magazine’s apologist for the administration’s actions in the US attorney purge, admits he was wrong about this, you know Gonzales is in significant trouble. Just go read TPM’s coverage because they continue to lead the way on this story. I also recommend the NYT story on Kyle Sampson, the ambitious young Gonzales chief of staff who resigned yesterday.
