Britain Withdraws from “Vietnam, the Sequel”

In honor of the British government announcing it will soon be reducing its troop levels in Iraq, here’s Rachel Weisz’s antiwar harangue of hapless British diplomat Ralph Fiennes (who apparently is less timid in real life) from The Constant Gardener.

Weisz won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role.

There’s plenty of commentary out there on this development, with the Guardian declaring the move to be a result of sinking poll numbers for Tony Blair and Juan Cole offering a bleak assessment of the situation in southern Iraq. Leave it to that wacky contrarian Dick Cheney to see this as a sign of progress.
